This is an e-mail from Caden's mother.
We are in the ICU currently at Children's Medical in Dallas. It has been a busy night of tests, doctors etc. since Caden and I flew in around midnight. They have been hard at work with many different doctors with different specialties working to come to a conclusion. They have concluded that Caden has infant botulism. They said we will probably never know how this happened for sure. Spores in the air, soil etc. are all possible causes. We have talked with several different teams of doctors that are confident enough that they have ordered the anti-toxin from California. They will also take a stool sample at some point if possible to confirm further but the results will take too long at this point and we need to proceed with treatment. They have done an EMG(?) to look at the nerve/muscle connection which is conclusive also. The anti-toxin should be here tonight or in the morning at the latest. It is still a critical time in the next few days to keep Caden breathing on his own-if not they will definitely give him assistance until his body begins to recover. We are looking at a very long process. We will probably be here several weeks. We will be in the ICU for sure until his breathing is not a concern. It could take a few days once he receives the anti-toxin to notice a shift in his condition and then it will be gradual from there. They will work with him at therapy at some point to gain back any developments that he's lost. He has a great chance at a full recovery. It could just be a slow process. We are thankful that we are not dealing with a lifelong disorder as we were afraid at first. We are still in great need of prayers to get through this time. We pray first for Caden and his health to stay stable and that they will keep him comfortable, strength for us to get through this, and wisdom and patience as we work to figure out how all of this will work with Brazier, Brandon 's job etc. We have many things to be thankful for but still many concerns. Above all we are. SO thankful to be here where they have dealt with a few cases of this before this year and they are on top of their game!! We will have a Caring Bridge site shortly to keep everyone informed. Thank you for your continued prayers and concerns.
