Jaws of Life

My nephew Chase was in the paper yesterday for his upcoming race on Saturday and now James (my husband) is on the front page of the paper today. James was called out to a bad wreck where he had to use the Jaws of Life. More of the story below:

Wichita Falls firefighters and paramedics use brute force and the Jaws of Life to free the driver of a Honda that crashed into a parked school bus Wednesday morning at Sam Houston Elementary School.

Paramedics and firefighters work Wednesday morning to extricate the driver of a vehicle that crashed into a bus parked in front of San Houston Elementary School. A witness said the car sped up and swerved to the left side of the street as it approached.

An accident involving a Wichita Falls public school bus Wednesday sent one man to the hospital.
Alejandro Caballero, 35, was airlifted to Parkland Hospital in Dallas after the car he was driving ran into the front of a bus.
Crews worked for about half an hour with the Jaws of Life to free Caballero from the Honda Civic. He was taken to United Regional Health Care System, but later transported to Dallas.
Caballero of Wichita Falls was driving north on a street near Sam Houston Elementary School about 8:40 a.m. Wednesday, according to Renae Murphy, public information officer for the Wichita Falls Independent School District.
She said the car suddenly accelerated, sideswiped a parked car, then slammed head-on into the parked bus.
Murphy said Caballero is not the parent of a child at the elementary school.
The bus driver was helping one girl get off the bus when the accident happened. Neither were injured. No other schoolchildren were on the bus at the time.
No one inside the parked car was injured.
Sgt. Joe Snyder, public information officer with the Wichita Falls Police Department, said medical personnel believe Cabellero suffered a seizure, which might have triggered the crash.
